Duane Albert Morris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital, after a courageous two-week battle with illness. He was 92 years old.
Duane was born on February 2, 1932, in Lapeer, Michigan, and throughout his life, he also resided in Madison Heights, Riverview, and Kochville Township. He was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his country.
On November 20, 1956, Duane married the love of his life, Diane Rasic Morris, in Angola, Indiana. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, and they celebrated 68 wonderful years together. Diane survives him, holding onto the cherished memories they created over a lifetime.
Duane served his country with honor and distinction during the Korean War as a radio repair soldier in the Headquarters Company, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. Although a quiet source of pride, he remained humble and mostly quiet about his service, and upon his return to the States, Duane transitioned into a successful career as a television service engineer. He worked with companies such as Radio Distributing (Detroit and Saginaw), RCA (Taylor), and Zenith (Chicago), retiring in 1995. In retirement, he treasured the time spent with his family and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. His hobbies included fishing, camping, golfing, and hamm radio. He was a devoted Detroit Tigers fan win or lose, and was regularly found listening to the radio broadcast or watching them on tv.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane, his children Micalene Faller (David), Jeffrey Morris (Stephanie), and Kristin Koglin (Sean). Duane was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Nicholas, Benjamin, Douglas, Mark, Daniel, Matthew, and Devin. He is also survived by his sister, Sheila Skalecki, of Springfield, Missouri. Duane was preceded in death by his son Mark, grandson Jason, brother Ventry, and sister Norma.
A memorial service to honor Duane’s life will be held at Snow Funeral Home on Friday, August 30, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a ceremony at 12:00 p.m. Reverend Tim Morris will officiate the service, offering comfort and reflection as Duane is remembered by those who knew and loved him.
